Design trends 2025: Untangled

We’ve been untangling the anticipated trends in design for 2025. From AI-tools being used more frequently to accessible design being an essential requirement, here are five trends we expect to see in the coming year.
AI tools – a designer’s best friends
Whether you like it or not, AI is not going anywhere. Some creators fear that AI will take over their jobs, while others see it as an invaluable collaborator that can help them achieve amazing results faster, explore new creative avenues and get experimental. So in 2025, expect to see even more AI-generated images, patterns, and videos combined with human creativity.

Experimental mixed media – creating one-of-a-kind designs
As the use of AI grows and grows, we expect to see a reaction against this, with designers craving more unique, tactile and organic expressions in 2025. This trend blends a mix of media, such as photography, print & digital graphics, textures & illustrations and scrapbook-style layouts, allowing creators to make one-of-a-kind design pieces. It’s all about breaking the boundaries and celebrating creative freedom!

Nostalgia – old is new again
With the world feeling increasingly uncertain, people are drawn to nostalgia for its comforting familiarity and simplicity. This is why we can expect to see more nostalgic elements incorporated into designs in 2025. By using textures, retro typography & colours, and film cameras for photography, designers can create nostalgic visuals that can help to connect with consumers and evoke positive emotions.

Bold minimalism – more is more
Minimalism is staying, but it’s becoming bold – it’s all about making a statement! Oversized type, bright colours, simplified shapes and strategically used negative space will be seen more in 2025. Bold minimalism works well because it balances simplicity and impact by prioritising functionality and clarity, allowing for sophisticated and elegant designs.

Accessibility – an essential requirement
Accessibility in 2025 is no longer a nice-to-have feature – it’s a requirement for all designs! Designers are more mindful in creating designs that are accessible to everyone, making it more enjoyable for all users. This includes colour contrast, readability in certain typefaces, and adding image descriptions.
