Cite attend Microsoft MWord event

Although in the main we use open-source software for technical development – Joomla, WordPress, Magento etc – we like to keep an eye on what our friends at Microsoft are up to. This is the second invite-only event we have attended this year, and a good opportunity to meet a range of industry specialists, from uber-agency AKQA to the creme of Microsoft’s own in-house technologists.

Microsoft – virtual or not?

According to Design Sunglasses UK blog, a pair of Microsoft sunglasses were sold on Ebay for $173,000.

Now that sounds like an awful lot of money for what look like a pair of throwback 80s specs.  Apparently, the story goes, that they were given out to Microsoft employees back in the 80s as a way of saying “the sun always shines on Microsoft” and these are the only surviving pair in the world.

XP sp3

Microsoft have released WindowsXP service pack 3 to manufacturers which means that it’s on the way for business and home users.

This represents the last of the major XP updates from MS as they seek to push users on to the Vista operating system that has been beset with the usual “teething problems” and has recieved a luke warm welcome generally.

The update should be available to the general public on April 29th through windows update etc. but may not been seen in any shops as MS have decided to stop installing XP on new systems from June this year.

The fat lady has sung

The Web Standards Project is an organisation which created the ACID tests as a benchmark for browser conformance and have recently released ACID3 which is designed to take into account modern “2.0″ style sites as well.

The test sends data to the browser which does it’s best to render it correctly, it is then scored depending how close the browser gets to the ideal render.
