Social networking is a powerful tool, used by people and businesses alike to communicate with others around the world.  From your Aunt Gertrude in Warwick to Ashton Kutcher in Hollywood, it seems like everyone has a social network profile (if not three or four!!).  The popularity of these sites continues to grow, with Facebook recently gaining over 500 million users and Twitter breaking the 300 million mark.  Thus, it is no surprise that businesses have caught on to the marketing potential that exists on social network sites. While there is no mystery algorithm or special blend of online/offline marketing, there are certain things companies can do to improve their social network profiles. Busy weekend shows Twitter’s global influence

Amid the millions of tweets bouncing around Twitter this weekend, two important “events” were happening that help define the influence and future of the social network.

Friday marked the launch of Greenpeace’s 24-hour Twitter demonstration for the phase out of nuclear energy in Germany.  Using the hashtag #erneuerbar, people were asked to tweet their support for the cause. Nearly 9,500 tweets were sent throughout the demo, suggesting the protest was a popular online event.  The participation was most likely well-beyond 10,000 as many Twitter users could have followed the demo without writing anything.  Greenpeace also set up a virtual headquarters though a designated website where visitors could get a visual image of the protest.  Illustrated figures marched across the screen, each with a face made from a participating Twitter user’s profile picture.  Various real-time tweets were displayed as the figures marched along the page.

Cite launches Facebook App for Rosetta Stone

Cite are happy to announce the launch of “International Me,” a new Facebook App for Rosetta Stone.

Located as a tab on the Rosetta Stone Facebook page, the app allows visitors to discover what their name would be as a French chef, Russian ballet dancer, Spanish racing car driver, and Bollywood superstar.

Cite launches E-act Facebook page

Cite has launched another Facebook page, this one for the UK-based educational charity, E-act.

The page serves as a smaller version of the organisation’s website, allowing visitors to get a full overview of E-act without leaving Facebook.  Multiple tabs display information efficiently and in accordance with the organisation’s guidelines.
