Leicester Highcross launch, a success

We were lucky enough to go to the official launch of the Highcross in Leicester, the new super shopping centre.  It’s great to see Leicester leading the way in design, innovation and shopping.

The development of an area of Leicester which was beginning to become a bit run down is an inspiration.  At a time when many projects (the London 2012 Olympics, the Curve Theatre) are over budget and behind schedule it’s good to see a business (Hammerson Plc) that achieves set goals and targets.

Microsoft – virtual or not?

According to Design Sunglasses UK blog, a pair of Microsoft sunglasses were sold on Ebay for $173,000.

Now that sounds like an awful lot of money for what look like a pair of throwback 80s specs.  Apparently, the story goes, that they were given out to Microsoft employees back in the 80s as a way of saying “the sun always shines on Microsoft” and these are the only surviving pair in the world.

And the winner is….

We’re pleased to announce that Frank Booth, a member of the Cite design team has won a competition to design a set of banner ads for Lyon Equipment Ltd, importers of some of leading climbing and mountaineering equipment for brands including Petzl, Beal and La Sportiva.

The competition was run on the UKs leading forum for the climbing community, UK Climbing, and the winning entries can be found here.

BoilerGuide launched

Cite are pleased to announce the launch of Boilerguide – destined to be the UK’s number once resource for boiler and central heating installation and maintenance professionals.

The site is designed to put customers in immediate contact with professional installers in their area. These are contactable via email, phone and (very soon) SMS.

Google launch new internet browser

As the title says, Google are bringing out their own open source browser, called Chrome that’s optimised for the next generation of information/vision rich web applications – find out more in this BBC article and directly from the horse’s mouth and a curious Google Book about the subject.
